ROAD OPENINGS……FINAL….

We are still getting a few inquiries about road conditions. Here it is….. all the roads are open and dry. However, some of the dirt roads into the cabins still have drifts, so a 4×4 would be smart there for about another week.

Also, much to our surprise, the lake is absolutely full. Wow! Right now it is 71, there is a gentle breeze, no mosquitoes (yet), and only a few ants. Pretty nice.

And save these dates: July 7, the Fire Department Pancake Breakfast; and July 14, Bucks Lake Homeowners Association Annual Meeting.

If you are a Forest Service cabin owner, did you get an email from Jim Rutherford, or Rick Frey, directing you to complete a form required to be part of our Permit Fee Appeal? If you did, did you send it in? You can access Jim at jim0324@suddenlink.net. You have only until May 23 to get that form in.

ANOTHER PLOWING UPDATE

The Oro-Quincy highway opened today. THERE ARE STILL ICY SPOTS, AND A WASH OUT NEAR THE PLUMAS/BUTTE COUNTY LINE.

Also, some people are confused about CA 162. That road designation ENDS just above Lake Oroville. From there to Quincy, it is either a Butte County, or Plumas County road. And it is not plowed in the winter, no matter what your car GPS says.

The Dam Road, (Bucklin Road), is now plowed but still icy. The crew will be back on Monday to continue west to the Butte County line.

Big Creek is open all the way. Countryman is done. The Highlands road is open but just to 4×4’s. The plowing crew is now on the Oro-Quincy Highway, and presumably they will do the Dam Road before heading toward Butte County.

Moderate rain today, 1.81″ before noon.

The County will start plowing tomorrow, Wednesday. They anticipate getting to the fire house by Friday, so keep that in mind if your plans take you to the lake. Other than where the snow has been in the shade all winter, this should go pretty fast, so where to park would be a very moving target every day. Best to just stay away, at least for a few days………

SNOW DEPTH

When you can see the dark colored planter in the picture, that means snow depth is one foot. That’s important, because the Road Department is contemplating when they will start to plow the basin. Sorry, I can’t tell you yet, because they have not specifically decided, but stay tuned. It won’t be too awfully long……

2-28-12 ROAD PLOWING UPDATE

If the coming storm stays as strong as predicted, the Road Department will NOT continue plowing. Any persons with vehicles below the summit should move them to the summit before this evening.

NATIONAL FOREST HOMEOWNERS ELECTION

I very rarely use this space to push anything. But probably a lot of you are Forest Service cabin owners, many of whom have received an email from me about the NFH election. You likely have also received an email from a person named George Cardinet, and maybe been to his website.

Let me just say that in some of it, he does not have his facts right, and in other areas the truth gets twisted. If you follow his misguided advice, California will lose seats on the NFH Board to Pacific Northwest persons who want to fire the current NFH staff, and deprive California of proper representation on the NFH Board.

FEBRUARY 23 ROAD UPDATE

This is important stuff. Today the Road Department announced that due to the historically low snow fall, they will begin plowing our two access roads:

Big Creek Road will be plowed to Sherman Bar Road
Bucks Lake Road will be plowed from the Summit to the Fire Station

Unplowed area beyond those two limits have areas of 2 – 3 feet in addition to areas of black pavement. Your best option in those areas is tracked ATV’s. Wheeled vehicles, including ATV’s and 4X4’s are both prohibited and unwise.
