The weather page is running again. The problem was, indeed, Windows Update, and the settings have now been changed. Isn’t Windows wonderful?
Yes, the weather page locked up again. And I am in Southern California. I should be able to get back to the Lake and fix it on Tuesday. We have not yet figured out why it is doing that, but I suspect, since it is in the early morning hours, that Windows Update may be playing a role.
And….., thanks for all the comments. This is just a whole lot of fun. It should be really fun when the snow flies.
The Weather Page is running again. There was obviously some kind of significant electrical event on the 15th, because every clock in the cabin was scrambled. The computer was on, but nothing was running on it. For the record, the cabin is protected by a whole house surge breaker, and all the computer equipment is on a UPS. In the past, we have seen PG&E send some pretty weird stuff down the wires, and this had to be one of those times.
Oh, yes. It was beautiful, spectacular at the lake. I’m sorry the web cam cannot do it justice.
Yup, the weather page is locked. And we are away from the cabin. I will be back there on Friday, and will fix it then, if it has not fixed itself (which it sometimes does).
Yes, you can post comments, and we welcome them. The first time you post a comment, we have to look at it and put it through some filtering to make sure it is not malicious. So your first post will be delayed a bit. If you pass, (and we hope you do!), your comments will then appear more quickly.
Remember to look occasionally at the Photo tab. For instance, the beautiful background photo on the home page is posted there. And as winter progresses, be sure to look there for new photos after storms.
Last, we are still contributors to KXTV in Sacramento, and KOLO-TV in Reno. Monica Woods uses our data every morning at 6:50 on KXTV, and we do send pictures to them. KOLO does not use our numbers very often, but they do show our pictures. If you Reno folks want to see our numbers, you will have to talk to Chris Larson.
Here we are with a whole new design. It is pretty spectacular, but it is a BIG change, and I am betting most of you will like it. By the way, the background photo was taken by me from the Groomer on the main road in at about 4 pm on a day last December. Even though the photo is spectacular, it does not do justice to what is was like to be there. I’m just glad I had a camera. So, ENJOY!
We finally have the weather page going again after some real character building events. There are some issues, such as the “grey hole,” and the times for sunrise and set, and moonrise and set, but I’ll live with those for a while.
We will be away from the cabin quite a bit in the fall, but I keep in contact with friends at the lake, and so will try to keep the blog updated. I think on November 1 I will switch over to the Winter blog.
Also, some time in the next few weeks we will unveil a whole new web site home page, which will be easier for me to maintain (much more timely photographs!), and if we can do it, a place for your comments. I’m excited as we set up to make that happen.
Well, here it is, October, and we stil do not have a functioning weather station, for which I apologize profusely. It has been a cascade of problems, all related to bringing the new computer on line. Right now it looks like our realistic time to get back up is the end of the month. We’ll keep working on it.
