PLOWING: INFO FROM PLUMAS COUNTY

Yes, I am getting it  direct from the source now. The county has plowed to Haskins Campground and made a turn around. Another crew is coming up Big Creek, and made it 3 miles above the parking lot and made a small turn around.

The plan is to complete the Big Creek loop, then do Countryman’s and the Highlands, and then the Dam road, and finally the back road to the Butte Co. Line.

More as I get it.

PLOWING: WHOOPS!

The Road department has contacted me to tell me the information I am sharing is not accurate. Ouch! I have asked them to get me the right info and I will post it. Until they do, there will be no more posts about plowing unless I get air tight verification.

PLOWING UPDATE

The County got to between the two lodges today. One might assume they spent some time plowing the road they had already cleared, so they could get back out, since it snowed about a foot today. The progress is about what we figured – they will get to the fire house on Thursday, then take the weekend off (they work 4 days), and then we hope they will head for the dam on Monday. My guess is that will take two days. Then, if previous years patterns hold, they will head down the Oro-Quincy Highway to the snow line, and then back to do the Highlands, and down Big Creek. They might be done with all of that next week, or it might slide over to the following week. But, unless you are on the main roads, good luck getting into your cabin any time soon. On Mile High Road, we will wait to plow till we have about 2 feet average. In addition, we have at least 11 trees down across the road, and I think we are typical. We might get in for Memorial Day. Maybe……

PLOWING, PART III

The County did start plowing today, and they made it to Whitehorse. That would be the easy part. My guess now is that they will get to the fire house on Thursday, take Friday off, and then begin again on the following Monday.

PLOWING, PART II

We are trying to stay on top of this. Now, the Road Department says, yes they will be plowing, but they do not know exactly when. We’ll keep checking, and post info here when we know it.

PLOWING THE ROADS

Well, it has to happen some time, as this winter simply cannot go on forever! The County will start plowing on the 26th, and it is my experience it will take them three days, possibly four, the reach the fire house.  Then they will likely leave till the following Monday. We never know for sure if they will head to Haskins and the Highlands first, or to the dam. They will do the Oro-Quincy highway then, and last, head down Big Creek. I will try to keep up with their progress and post it here.

And the groomer is still running now, with excellent new snow conditions. With few riders, the roads are holding up well. Ride now, or cry later!

STILL WINTER (PART 2)

Yes, it is. Four feet in the last 7 days. The stop signs are now buried, so that means 8 feet. And the Weather Service hints at more to come. We are certainly doing our part for Southern California swimming pools!

STILL WINTER

Yup, it still is. While we did not get quite as much snow as expected, 9 or 10″ is still respectable when it is officially Spring. Grooming is still happening, though not as aggressively as in the main winter season. The county will be plowing in a month, so get out and enjoy it now.
