BACK IN BUSINESS (MOSTLY)

We have most of our internet issues solved, so the picture and the weather station will not be subject to any more freezes. In addition, the rain and wind sensors have been repaired and are now functioning.

We think we have solved the upload limit problems we were having with Wild Blue, and will have to watch that over the next 30 days, but visitors to this website should not notice any issues.

Finally, THE PANCAKE BREAKFAST STARTS AT 8 AM, not 7. Oops!

WEB CAM AND WEATHER STATION

We are trying to solve some troublesome issues with our IP, Wild Blue, and while we work on that, for several days the camera or the weather page may freeze for hours or days at a time. We have to get it fixed quickly, for a lot of reasons, so trust that we will be working on it.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Reminding all you friends of Bucks Lake. The annual Fire Department Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, July 3, from 7 am to 11 am. If you’ve never attended, it is a great breakfast, coupled with a fun social occasion, all in an opportunity to support our volunteer fire department. The money raised goes to a special fund under the direct control of the fire fighters, a pretty good idea.

Remember, we are alone “on the hill.” The Forest Service only fights wild land fires, and does no medical. Quincy and Meadow Valley resources are at least a half hour away, as is the Quincy ambulance. Over the years, we have saved lives, saved buildings, and snuffed out wild land fires before they got out of control.

Our fire department volunteers are a great investment for all who love Bucks Lake.

See you there!

WIND!

Our anemometer is broken, so you would not know it from looking at the website. But we have the same wind as everyone else. Whitecaps on the lake yesterday and today, and not too warm, either. We keep hoping summer will arrive, and maybe stay for a while this time.

TIME TO CELEBRATE

It’s official. The back road opened yesterday. A pretty heroic effort by the road crew. And then some.

I’ve already had some reports the road is in good shape. I know the part I drove on Friday looked good, but did have plowed walls right up to the fog line. That will go fast now, be be aware.

Does this mean we can finally, officially say that summer is upon us? I hope.

Also, last week I estimated the lake was about 8 feet below the spillway. Now, a week later, it is more like three or four feet. PG&E says it will be up against two boards in a couple of weeks.

Summer. Maybe?

NOT THERE YET

We checked out the back road Friday. They have plowed to about 2 miles west of Grizzly Summit. Where they stopped, it looks like about 4′ of snow. On the other hand, the snow is probably all melted around Frog Rock. I still think it will take most or all of next week to finish up. More then.

Where they have plowed, there are some awesome walls of snow, considering it is June, and at 5000 feet.
