BACK ON !

Yippee!! Yes we are back on, and I want to thank Rich Green at Plumas Sierra Telecommunications for his priceless assistance. On the phone today, he coached me through the re-aiming process. He knows what he’s doing, since he has done “about 500″ dish installations.

There’s still about 8 feet most everywhere, and access will be difficult for the next several days, as the County plows the roads.

If you have a Bucks cabin, your structure is likely OK, though it may be “tweaked,” but anything you have hanging on the outside walls, or a satellite dish on a pole, etc., is trashed, squashed, bent, twisted, etc. Pray for summer……

ROAD PLOWING

Yes they are really going to do it. The Road Department will start at the summit on Monday, May2. They will go to the Fire House, then down Big Creek and into Countryman’s. After that they will plow to the dam, and then out the Back Road to the county line. They will have to evaluate when they will plow to the Highlands. All this is dependent on their ability to safely move all the snow they will plow.

My guess is progress will not be terribly fast with the amount of snow we have.

ANOTHER UPDATE

It has been a while…. Jeff Iversen reports 12 feet still in his driveway. Our internet dish is still not working. We are going up the Thursday after Easter to see what we can do, but Plumas Sierra tells me that a half inch wrong aim can cut us off. I will experiment with the dish, but I don’t have much hope. On the other hand, Plumas Sierra will charge a minimum of $150, to a max of $450, and that is if I provide the snowmobile. It is a lot less if we wait till we can drive, but by then, half the summer will be gone! I want the picture and weather station as badly as you do, and I will keep working on it.

PG&E

In case you have not heard, PG&E has a number of lines buried by snow, mostly in the Haskins area, and so, to minimize their liability, they have turned off the power to the ENTIRE LAKE today at 10 am and plan to keep it off until Monday. And they plan to do that next weekend, and perhaps beyond.

Do you get the feeling that PG&E does not want you at the lake?? Since they are a bureaucracy so much like the federal government, it probably will do no good to complain. I guess this is just part of the fall out from an extreme snow fall, along with trashed satellite dishes (like mine), squashed top caps, and who knows what else.
